Suheir Hammad, a third generation Palestinian refugee, was born in Jordan in Hussein refugee camp. Her grandparents were exiled from Lyd, Palestine in 1948. Hammads family immigrated to Brooklyn, New York when she was five years old. A published poet, she is recipient of a TONY Award for her appearance on HBOs « Russell Simmons Presents Def Jam Poetry ». Salt of this Sea is her first acting role.
Saleh Bakri is a Palestinian actor born in Bina village in the Galilee in 1977. His mother is from Jaffa and his father, the well known actor Mohammed Bakri, is from Bina. He has performed regularly in theater. Salt of this Sea is his debut performance in an Arab film.
Riyad Ideis has directed two short narrative films. He studied film in San Francisco and lives and works in his native city, Jerusalem. Salt of this Sea is his first acting role.
Shelley Goral, born in 1979, is an activist, performer, and theater actor. She has performed in several plays including "No Exit". She graduated from the "The Room Theatre" which is one of -- if not the only -- independent and politically engaged theaters in Israel. Goral has created several art performances and as well participated in radical reaction demonstrations and public protest against obligatory service in the Israeli army after she refused to be drafted, as well as actions against the occupation of Palestine. "Salt of this Sea" is her first appearance in a feature film.
